True to Mercedes Benz’ slogan “The best or nothing”
The newly designed Mythos 6 area “Awakening – the path to emissions-free mobility” will complement, from 30 January 2011, the other exhibits at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart.
Late in 2010, Bohle Group carried out the work to put in place the new 550.00 m² multimedia ceiling, thereby making a major contribution to reshaping this area.
Project description:
The M6 mythos space at the Mercedes-Benz Museum is being renovated and will be used to present new themes. The following disciplines were involved in the construction phase, which took place between mid-November and late December 2010:
Construction including furniture, media technology, lighting technology, audio technology, products, graphics, installation, exhibits, ventilation and air conditioning, RAS, WLAN, ELA, electrical engineering, sprinklers, flooring (screed, cover) and dismantling work.
•Interior:
The existing screed was removed and replaced with new screed.
Flooring was then laid. Wires and floor tanks were installed into the new screed.
The interior was provided with 5 platforms to accommodate cars. These platforms have been equipped with media technology and the technology for audio guides and graphic displays. A bench is provided on the platforms.
•Context panorama:
The context panorama (i.e., the slope) was provided with a substructure and a new cover. Media technology, lighting technology and cables were integrated into the context panorama.
From a content perspective, the context panorama reflects drive genealogy as well as infrastructure.
•Ceiling:
The ceiling was disassembled up to the lower edge of the existing grid ceiling by Bohle Group and was designed using a new multimedia ceiling.
In parallel to works carried out on the multimedia ceiling, RAS, ELA, sprinklers, lighting technology, audio technology, other media technology, ventilation and air conditioning were all installed.
•Workbench:
The existing workbench was disassembled (if possible only in parts) and then reinstalled.
•Illustrated history:
To provide an illustrated history, 5 windows had new graphics installed.
One window was provided with a technical interactive exhibit.
General building specification:
The new ceiling is a suspended LED ceiling installed on the existing concrete ceiling (Holorib ceiling). The LED metal coffered ceiling is made up of:
•Ceiling cladding by Bohle Group
•LED light spots including diffuser and LED lighting technology and event equipment which can be extracted from the
ceiling (beamer, screen, speakers)
•Substructure by Bohle Group
Requirements regarding the LED metal coffered ceiling:
•Load-bearing materials of building material class A, non combustible to DIN 4102. The related certificates had to be
submitted to the engineering office.
•In line with applicable regulations, Bohle had to provide a verified structural analysis and the cost for this analysis had to
be included into the various items.
•Loads: For the LED lighting technology, a load of approx. 6 kg/m² had to be assumed.
•Only products and structures which had general approval from the building inspectorate could be used.
•All components had to be precisely aligned.
•The ceiling structure components had to be prefabricated for the installation of LEDs, lighting and audio technology and
so event equipment and fire protection systems (sprinklers, RAS) could be integrated.
During the reconstruction work, we discovered that joint-working is a great facilitator for success and that minor “hurdles” become the spice of projects when they are considered as challenges.
